The state government has partially rolled back the tariff for consumers using up to 500 units. The final revised tariff is below:

At last, the speculated power tariff increase is in TNEB comes into effect from April 1, 2012. ( Now no longer valid. See above for right tariff)

Unlike the previous tariff plans, there is no uniform slabs for consumers. Four types of slab has been in force depending on the usage: Upto 100 unit, upto 200 units, upto 500 units, above 500 units. These slabs are created specifically to discourage consumers from utilizing more electricity.
All consumers are affected, but above 500 units consumers are the severely affected. Due to this differential slabs based on consumption, a consumer using 200 units will pay Rs360/- , but if the consumption is just one unit more 201, he has to pay: Rs 603.5/-
For 1000 units of bimonthly consumption the tariff will be whopping: Rs 4675/-
