Very high parking fees at Express Avenue and Ampa Skywalk Mall

Express Avenue Mall which houses Satyam Escape Multiplex and Ampa Skywalk which has PVR Cinemas have many complaints of exorbitant collection of parking fee. See instances of experiences of some of the Mall visitors:

Express Avenue:

Last weekend I had visited Express Avenue mall for the first time. I had bad experience with CAR parking fee there. They charged me total of Rs 300 for  6 hrs of parking. We went for a movie+ shopping, while returning we waited around 1:15 hours to reach the parking fee collection place as there was a long queue of cars. We initially thought that there is only single gate, so was the rush. But we came to know that everyone has fought in the collection place due to this huge fee. There were some display boards when we neared the collection place . Eg: 1st 1 hr 50 , 2nd hour 20.. 6th hour 60. So we thought it would be 110(50+60). But when we are about to pay, the person there said our amount is Rs 315. We were shocked, the person explained us how its calculated. We started arguing, meantime the cars behind us stared horning. So we didn’t argue much,  we said we would not visit this place from now on.

Looks like they cumulatively add each hours parking fee and come to a sum for the total hours.  Also there are separate rates for weekday and weekends. Also they don’t have any fee boards when we enter the mall parking. If it was we would have been somewhat prepared. Also there is some premium parking which is flat Rs 150/3 hrs which has a designated parking area. I haven’t seen such a costly parking fee in any mall in Chennai. Looks like for bike the charge is Rs 25/hour :(
I think someone would have already experienced the same. I just wanted to share this information.

For another person:

Me too!!!!!   The reading for the Parking shows a minute greater than 3 hours(3:01). And the guy has charged 20 extra for that one minute,,  Moreover I was waiting in queue for ten mins,

After some negotiation I paid for for 3 hours

Ampa Skywalk:

In Ampa Skymall, the first hour is 50 or so and then for every additional hour around 20 (approximate rates).

So if you go for a night show and you cross midnight, the billing starts from the first hour again. This is not the right way of billing. Even if you question them, they don’t give you answers and make you wait for more than 30 minutes with no solid answers :(

There was a news article in TOI on this and Mayor has said, some action will be taken to control the Parking fees. Let see how that goes.

it is a good place indeed, has all types of entertainment and shopping facilities , however the parking fees for the vehicles was reaaaallllyyyyy way to high and its almost a robbery.
i paid 150rs for my car for parking my car there for 2hrs , there was no such intimation abut the fees and almost all the good sold there has an additional charge than any other place in chennai. i am ok with something we purchase but for a stupid car parking thing nobody will be ok to throw money like this , that too it is jus paked on open ground not on or inside the floors or any elevator facilities like abirami mall has. for 150 rs i would have opted for a car wash.
Are you providing any insurance for my car
are you providing any dust proof or sun shade parking
then whats so special in it
why we need to spend our hard earned money for simply parking our car
whats so special in your parking area
    this is not good ..

I had this experience today but apparently, there are more sufferers I guess. Watched Enthiran and left paying Rs. 60 for my two wheeler. Was wondering how much it would’ve costed for my car. I am leaving my car/two wheeler hereafter at a friend’s place nearby when ever I plan to come back :) I’d rather buy a ticket for someone instead of paying for the parking here.

  • tsgd84

I too had similar experience @ Express Avneue. I went there to watch Enthiran movie. We have have spent only few minutes past 3 hours, but we have paid Rs. 80 for two wheeler parking. Rs. 20 for an hour. It’s extremley higher rate for parking and I have never ever paid this much for parking @ chennai.

  • IP cool !!!!

It’s high time people realise that money doesnot grow on trees.Due to our friends’ open heart grievances I m definitely not goin to park in der.!!!!

  • aa

Everyone should simply boycott the darn place (atleast the parking)..once they see the drop in parking, they’ll get back to reality and stop fleecing people.

  • Rookie

Thanks for the info guys.. I will definitely find a different place to park my car now..

  • The Black Sheep

Rofl..Just imagine if you go for a movie at EA you just cannot enjoy the movie, your mind would be in “how much parking fee am i going to pay today!!. Instead of paying 300 rs for parking @ Escape Cinemas , you could get 3 tickets @ Sathyam Cinemas and happily watch the movie..

  • RR

Thanks a lot for all your inputs….it made my choice easier to decide not to watch a movie at Escape!! We are instead going to Sathyam itself!!

  • Gayathri

Same experience here. We watched a movie in Escape & ended up paying a whoppin Rs.215 for parking. There was a huge line of cars waiting to get out of the mall & that added another 45 minutes of waiting in the parking itself. With the rates not printed on the parking ticket & no maximum ceiling rates, EA parking guys must have recovered the entire cost of contract in few weeks!! When will the authorities do something about this?? (when they watch a movie in Escape may be..)

  • Mundiyan

I too had the bad experience…..I will never go there with a car.

  • Rajeev

watched a movie from EA. Ticket price was 120. But the parking price was 150.
i have decided not to go to EA for watching a movie

  • Prashant

I also had very bad experience during my first visit on bike to skywalk mall. I was charged 35 rupees for 2 hours. I was shocked. So guys if you are visiting this mall please park your car/bike somewhere outside & then enter this malls.

They are making money like anything. whether you purchase anything or not you have to pay the money. This is very expensive & new.

  • Lfgjdfk

all should boycott that fucking place, what the hell govt is doing, may be the place belong to some mother fuking politicians

  • Sudhir

seriously… People should stop parking there or even goin to EA… heights of looting people….

We went EXP mall on 31/3/11 around 11.30am, And we found the parking board 12.00hrs total Rs.10 for 2wheeler. After 12.00hrs Rs.15, & then Rs.20. The parking contractor were cheating & looting the money from the public. Our sincere advice be aware of the parking thief in EXP.mall. The public who ever going to visit the mall they were experiencing their bad situation. So the concern people of the can take the necessary action, so that the more public may attracted, otherwise it wil give a strong bad impression about Chennai malls. The malls in other cities never do such type of fake parking board.

************************Its better to park our vehicles @ a nearby parking slot where we shall pay nominal parking charges… then use an AUTO to reach (y)our desired destinations “THE MALLS”….. Paying in hundreds … just for parking is mere waste of money…. ********************

The Mall owners very well know that most of the visitors … do only WINDOW SHOPPING… so the parking fees could be the only way to loot money from our pockets… DON’T GIVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THEM…. BEWARE CONSUMERS !

  • Rajkanth

    Dear brothers,

Of course, i met the same problem in EA. I wonder that if i parked my bike for a month in EA, the cost they charged can use for buy a well-conditioned second hand bike. It’s a serious problem guys. The time to reach toll gate, different rates for times & weekends special rates make me feel worst about them. The one & only hope of these money eaters is, they hope we all will pay whatever they fixed & nobody will join to others to raise voice against them.. There is no union among us. That’s the problem for all…. :'(

  • swamy

Some action needs to be taken about these parking in these malls….i went for a movie with friends to PVR in skywalk and after the movie we were shocked to hear that the parking fee was 200 for 2 bikes.
If people are goin to the movies , it gonna take 3 hours for sure.
With such hiigh parking parking rates it really difficult to chose either PVR or EA to watch a movie.
the theaters must have some section of the parking alloted to them for movie watchers with lesss parking fees…….
IF THIS IS NOT DONE PEOPLE ARE SURE GONNA THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING TICKETS FOR THEATERS IN MALLS………

  • Sree

Who is the  mother fucker of owner for this Mall and who the hell mother fucker for this Vehical paking contractor… if they want more money begg us we can give… more than your parking charges…

  • jan

Park your bikes in Chintadiripet MRTS Station .Bike parking fee Rs.4,Car parking fee Rs.15 for 5 hours.Take a bus from Secreteriat n get down  at  Clock tower .It costs you 10 Rs maximum.

Auto wallahs may charge 50 bucks from Chintadiripet to EA.

Another option is to park in Spencer plaza and walk to EA.Parking Fee in Spencer Plaza is less.

  • ganesh

sorry to interrupt one small idea if you choose ea to shop or to watch movie don’t worry Spencer plaza is near by only just park over there and do 5 min walk from there it’s simple and low amount only i will do this when ever i choose ea

It is merely robbing our money.  I went only with my two wheeler and had the same bad experience, then i decided not to go there.

We should not encourage such things .

  • madan

    Dear friends,

Every body had experience from parking in express avenue mall and ampa sky walk mall, what iam told now.its a international mall . and there parking systems are totally in international type .so, why we are not under stand this method of parking amt collection . ………

  • mrafeeq

As done in most western countries, the parking fees should be refunded(in other sense should be free) if someone buys things upto certain value . I am a NRI who has visited chenai after 5 yrs. Shocked to see the inflation and false economic growth which is heading towards a bubble.
