Chennai Metro Rail Ticket Cost Koyambedu,CMBT,Alandur

Finally Chennai Metro Rail Phase I is inaugurated today( 29th June 2015). It was launched in June 2009. The wait is over.

The minimum ticket cost is Rs 10. Maximum Rs 40 as of now.

The detailed Fare chart is given below:


Ticket Price:

Koyambedu to CMBT : Rs 10

Koyambedu to Arumbakkam : Rs 20

Koyambedu to Vadapalani : Rs 20

Koyambedu to Ashok Nagar: Rs 30

Koyambedu to Ekkattuthangal: Rs 40

Koyambedu to Alandur: Rs 40

CMBT to Arumbakkam: Rs 10

CMBT to Vadapalani: Rs 20

CMBT to Ashok Nagar: Rs 30

CMBT to Ekkattuthangal: Rs 40

CMBT to Alandur: Rs 40

Arumbakkam to Vadapalani: Rs 10

Arumbakkam to Ashok Nagar : Rs 20

Arumbakkam to Ekkattuthangal: Rs 30

Arumbakkam to Alandur: Rs 40

Vadapanani to Ashok Nagar: Rs 10

Some features of the Metro:

1) The fist phase distance is 10KM

2) The stations include: Koyambedu(Market),CMBT, Arumbakkam(MMDA),Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar, Ekkattuthangal, Alandur. This stretch will be expanded till St. Thomas mount. This part(10KM) of the larger Chennai Central to Saint Thomas mount comprising 22KM


3) Two corridors – Washermenpet to Chennai Airport ; Chennai Central to St. Thomas Mount

4) Service will be operational for 19 hours – from 5 am to midnight

5) There will be a total of 32 stations (- 19 underground and 13 elevated). In the current phase 7 of the 13 elevated station is opened. Underground yet to complete.

6) Maximum Travel time from end to end Alandur to Koyambedu is 19 minutes. Abount ~15minutes from CMBT to Alandur. This is the gerat advantage of metro. Samde ride will take 45 to 60 minutes in Bus/Auto/Cab

7) Maximum passenger capacity: 1200 (mostly standing)

8) First Train time from Koyambedu: 6AM. First Train from Alandur : 6:03AM

9) Last train from Koyambedu: 9:40PM. Last from Alandur: 10:03PM

10) Total number of trains trips per day: 192

11) Train frequency: Every 10 minutes. Dwell time(Train stop time) in each station : 35 seconds

The ticket price seems to be bit costly. Guess, it will be revised based on the support it it gets.

Chennai Metro can be extended upto Tambaram, which will going to be the third terminal for the southern railways in the future and it is known fact that all the air passengers are not going to travel by Metro and all the air travelers are going upto washermenpet. There is a sizable middleclass people are residing in the southern part of chennai that is tambaram and chrompet. Therefore it is necessary to extend the Metro upto Tambaram.
